[C9] Webzen Note - 5th Fighter Class

Hey actionists,
Over the last few months our team of developers have been working closely together to bring to you the 5th class of Fighter. In this short article, we will briefly go over some of the key concepts and give you a sneak peek at the new fighter class.
Let us begin by how we first came up with the idea. Please read on below.
1. Birth of the 5th Fighter Class
‘Fighter’ is symbolic in the fact that it set the basic framework of C9. It is the first class to pack the action framework and also portrays well the ‘rough’ warrior image that we intended to show.
As we worked on the Warrior update and thought about the ‘next new class’ that we would like to add, we realized that we have only added female characters since the Demonisher update to the recent Valkyrie update. It was during this time we came about an idea that we should make something opposite to the concept of the existing fighters. This idea has come to fruition and resulted in this new 5th fighter class.
※ The details below are currently under development and are subject to change.

- The main weapon that the 5th Fighter class uses is ‘Battle Axe’
2. Skill Mechanics of the 5th Fighter Class
This new class are prideful fighters who protected the Nest of the Ancient Dragons deep inside the Recko Mountains. They kept their existence a secret to carry out their destiny. Unlike other fighters, they have a special ‘Frost’ nature that has been passed out from their ancestors which allows them to freeze their enemies. However, it differs greatly from the elemental magic of ‘Elementalist’ and ‘Wardens.’
With the special ability known as ‘Frost Stigma’ as the foundation, their skills can be largely divided into three types.
1.) Skill that marks the enemy with ‘Frost Stigma’

- New skill ‘Fatal Swing’ which marks the enemy with ‘Frost Stigma’
Some of the skills mark the enemy with ‘Frost Stigma’ when they hit an enemy. A ‘Frostflake’ effect is displayed above the enemy’s head or somewhere on their body when they have been marked by ‘Frost Stigma.’ While under ‘Frost Stigma’ effect, their attack speed is decreased. This effect is not permanent and will disappear after about 5 seconds since impact. And of course, this effect will be much shorter in PvP.

Skills which mark the enemy with ‘Frost Stigma’ have icons in bluish green color. Out of these skills, ‘Frost Skin’ is an exception in the fact that it does not strike the enemy but rather, it adds the ability to mark enemies to your right click attack ‘War Stomp.’

- While the ‘Frost Skin’ is active

The 5th Fighter class can mark the enemy with ‘Frost Stigma’ -
2) Skills which freeze the enemy by activating the marked ‘Frost Stigma’
‘Frost Stigma’ has an extra effect that reduces the attack speed of the enemies but it’s not powerful enough that it can be felt in battle. The true usefulness of the mark comes in the ‘activation.’ You must use 2nd and 3rd skills quickly to activate the marks that are on the enemy to bring out its true power.

- Freezing the enemy by activating the mark with ‘Furious Shout’

Skills which activate ‘Frost Stigma’ have icons in achromatic color. Enemies will be frozen if you successfully activate the mark and will earn you the time to think about your next move. Unfortunately, this effect will not work against bosses that have immunity to frost but that doesn’t mean any of its other mechanics won’t work.
3.) Skills that are not related to ‘Frost Stigma’ Effect
Not all skills are affected by ‘Frost Stigma.’ The ‘Dual Battle Axes’ alone are a good way of attacking. Only the fighter type classes with unmatched physical strength can even think of yielding such heavy axes with just one hand, right?
Only few skills of the default ‘Elite Fighter’ class remains and the spots have been filled by new skills that were made just for the new class. Actions that are implemented in C9 are different from the recent gaming trend of ‘Realistic Action by Motion Capture.’ In short, we added our ‘imagination’ to the Axe Martial Arts to implement a more ‘fancy’ action.

- In the process of making ‘Top Spin’ and ‘Mixer’ skills, we tested many ideas.

- Just look at that...! (Ouch) -
3. 5th Fighter Final Statement
Combat won’t be a problem even if you don’t utilize the effectiveness of ‘Frost Stigma,’ but using it strategically to bring out its full potential power is the key for 5th Fighter Class. This the first attempt in C9 to create synergy effects based on the order of skill use.
We will do our best to create a class that is action packed and strategically fun but at the same time, it won’t stray away from the game’s uniqueness where the situation changes from frame to frame.

- See you, soon! -
